Got to play with this a little last night and it seems great on certain maps but not on others. I dont know a lot about how the game functions behind the scenes, but my guess based on the maps that still struggle regardless of resolution is that it has to do with having a lot of minis on the board? 

The maps that still seem to struggle regardless of resolution are the ones that are more encounter heavy.

Yeah, this will help with per-pixel effects, such as fog, lights, ambient occlusion, etc. But on larger maps, we're most likely vertex-bound, which will require different optimizations. Thanks for testing it out!
