RWBY: The Grimm Campaign
·We're dipping our toes into new waters by doing a small collaboration with the people over at Rooster Teeth. They've got a show starting on the 15th of August featuring a Tabletop run in their RWBY universe dubbed RWBY: The Grimm Campaign.
Rooster Teeth reached out to us after having played around with the TaleSpire Kickstarter beta with the hopes that they could use the game for an upcoming Tabletop related show. With some of us having watched Rooster Teeth during the birth of machinima in the early 00s, it was an exciting prospect to be a little part of that story.
The Grimm Campaign is a pre-recorded show, which is handy for us, as TaleSpire is very much still in beta, and doesn't always cooperate fully during Live runs. It also allowed us to test our art pipeline with external assets and see what these types of setups might look like.
Speaking of the asset pipeline: The Grimm featured in the show are the 3D models used in the actual show production, just processed through our pipeline. Although not fully automated, it was still pretty smooth. We started with auto topology and UVs in ZBrush, then into Substance Painter, where we applied the TaleSpire filters, and lastly, through TaleWeaver to package the asset for the game.
Please note that our little contribution ended at getting the Grimm models into the game. We're excited about what the show might bring but blissfully ignorant as to where it might go and how it ties into the RWBY universe. All we know is that it will feature TaleSpire in the role of the table.

[EDIT] p.s. We nearly forgot to mention that the models from the show are owned by Rooster Teeth so we won't be shipping them in the game.
