Yesterday we fixed a bug where hide-volumes would not hide lights. This was great as that issue had interfered with many people's ability to tell stories with hidden elements as the lights would give away the locations of things such as secret rooms.
Naturally, as with most glitches, creative folks had found ways to use it to their advantage, and so after the patch was released, we received requests to put the bug back in.
It was an understandable request as we had just done something similar with player teleport, however in that case, there were differences:
- The bug wasn't ruining peoples ability to tell specific stories
- We know we have a significant rework of the player controller coming next year, and that would be a suitable place for a teleport option to live.
Because of the differences, we were clear that we would not be adding the hide-volume bug back to the game.
However, one particular feature has been on my to-do list for a time, and I decided it was a good day to give it a try.
That feature is hide-volume filters:
Before we ship, we still need to do thorough testing and potentially more iterations. However, I hope you like the direction this is heading!
Have a good one folks.
I do not mean to imply that this is a checklist for future decisions regarding restoration of bugs. It is not.
