Hi there folks,
No more patches this week, not for lack of bugs, but because I'm working on a big one.
At the end of last week, I discovered a bug, and it's a serious one. However, it's the happiest I've been to find a bug in a long while. The reason is that I (like many of you) have had the general sense that TaleSpire can get into states where some players aren't getting all the board events. The problem is that this kind of bug doesn't manifest immediately, it sits in the background and causes other things to go wrong.
This conspires to make the root cause very difficult to track down and very frustrating for all involved.
The good news is the server is working as intended, it's ticking away reliably. The annoying news is that the game itself has a place where it's not using the server correctly. The simple version is that the game has to ask the server to enter a campaign, and it does. BUT, it doesn't do that again in the event that the game briefly loses connection (which can happen from time to time).
And from that little hiccup, a swath of small bugs.
I've looked at where I'd have to add the fix, and I'm not happy with the code there, so I'm rewriting it. I'll natter about that as it progresses, but I'm pretty tired, so I'm going to go get some sleep.
