Now that we have the sphere and the cuboid I wonder how quick it would be to add full area-of-effect markers for all the different spell types. It seems that all the pieces are in. Could be an easy win. I am not sure if D&D and Pathfinder have the same AoE types though. Generally Pathfinder has more complexity so I would look into their rulebook first. (Also it’s a better game.)

I'm not sure that it's a quick win, as I wouldn't want to half-arse the implementation. We have some stuff that we've been saying is almost done for a while that we need to get out but then maybe the system specific stuff (like rule system) is a good focus. Saying that we also should get weather made so I don't know man. We'll see, thanks for bringing that up though, I'll bring it up in the planning meeting.

staring at the box, It made me wonder, is there anyway to tie that to the effects of the water plane. essentially turn it into fields of effects, like water or fog in localized regions.

There isn't yet. And the box ruler doesn't make that easier or harder. The terrain system Ree is working on supports bodies of water, I'm looking forward to him being able to show that!
We might be able to use the terrain system for localized fog, hmm. I'll ask!

on an unrelated note, showing off the view distance tool during the recent stream( i missed it)  I wondered a bit about an option to make it a vertical cylinder, probably niche but say they are inside a cathedral and the room has huge features, but i dont want to give them view beyond the walls, with spheres the limit must increase to make tall features show but would in some cases reveal alot of extra space.

Fair question. There isn't yet. Making it a cylinder or capsule rather than a sphere isn't a crazy idea, but the main problem is that this approach always fails a bit because the vision doesn't conform to the shape of the room. Making it taller will make some things work better but others would be a little worse.
The annoying answer is we need fog-of-war to make this work for real.
