It’s crazy how many years you’ve been working on this project. Which makes it all the more important that you don’t make a fatal mistake—such as, oh, I don’t know, not adding fog-of-war so that the program remains unusable forever. But I hear you have a solution ready to spring on us, and I can’t wait to see it! Godspeed good folk!

bro u keep yapping shit since last devlog (or even earlier).

Did u mean unusable... to you? Honestly, just leave the talespire community. This is not kindergarten, being passive aggresive doesnt mean anything clever no more. It's just annoying af.

arbitrary and rude comment. Please stop pestering hard working devs with these useless comments, they help no one and devs will do the fog of war whenever the far more requested features are done and whenever they are ready for it.

Wait, isn't there already a function to make things invisible to your players? I use it to hide certain parts of my map because I have at least one pain-in-the-ass player that just loves to run around and explore instead of paying attention to what's going on.

Based on my decades of experience with (non-game) software development, I’m always in favor of doing things “Right” as soon as it’s clear what that is. Sometimes it’s worthwhile to release something that’s not “Right” in order to get more information about what “Right” looks like.  Often, though, it’s not worth doing that, and I suspect this is one of those latter cases.

(Initially releasing TaleSpire with the starting assumption of local resource availability was one of those cases, by comparison.)

The caution you all exercise to ensure that new features and functionality will not break existing user creations is much appreciated!  This is one of those changes that is so fundamental to the application’s future but that, once achieved, will itself be essentially invisible to users. Its effects will not be, though, as I’m certain that adoption of the new capabilities will be swift once we get there…

Smashing news, all the way ‘round!

Thanks for the update and agree that it would be better to release later than to release earlier and immediately have to re-write.  That isn't an efficient use of time.

I love the idea of asset URLs, I'm wondering though, will external assets be indexed locally?
For my terrain generation toolset I rely on the index.json files to get details about the included TaleSpire assets. It would be great if the data for in-use or "subscribed" external assets was cached locally in a similar fashion.

I find it completely hilarious that the devs write long posts pretending to explain every last bit of their thought process to their fans and customers as if they care about us, but the moment you dare ask for a first-person mode that they can code in 1 hour so that your players can no longer look at the whole map and ruin every session, the devs won’t say a word and will even ban you for daring to ask it. They will chatter endlessly and scribble walls of text about lame programmer stuff literally no one cares about, but they won’t say a damn word about the thing everyone has been begging them for for years. I call this programmer hypocrisy, and its psychological cause is that programmers simply don’t play games so they don’t have a clue what gamers need, nor do they care. But Menyr is coming, so get in your last few rounds of hypocrisy before people stop caring about you and your badly thought out project to even notice.

I hope they can ban you from writing comments on DevLogs so we don't have to read your hateful tantrums.

We'll start our game of Cyberpunk on your vtt soon. The integration with HeroForge is really great. I am finishing a symbiotes for the cyberpunk-red sheet and experimenting with hide volumes and hidden boards. Can't wait to try it at the end of february, so keep up the good work.
