TaleSpire Dev Log 468
·Hi!
In my last update, I discussed the log-in flow with mod.io in TaleWeaver. The rest of the UI was still just "empty" stubs - input fields were there, but the data didn't go anywhere. Since then, I finished the first iteration of the upload UI, meaning TaleWeaver is now capable of uploading a creature to mod.io.
There's still plenty of work to do on the UI side, but it's getting there:
Filtering and Tags
Most of the work for uploading tags and other metadata in TaleWeaver Lite is done, but we still need to tackle the actual tag assignment and in-game search part.
However, we are looking into shipping an improved search ahead of the full tagging support in TaleWeaver. One of the most common requests we've received is that it's currently impossible to filter out AI-generation miniatures. To tackle this (and other potentially unwanted content), we are experimenting with adding "Content Flags" to the creature data, allowing the in-game search to filter on it.
We're also in touch with the people at mod.io to resolve some of the last issues we've encountered regarding their search and filtering API.
Updating Capabilities
As part of the uploading tools, we want to make it as easy as possible to not only upload new content but also update existing submissions. We already have a mockup of an Update-UI in TaleWeaver, but that still needs a decent amount of work to be easily understandable and usable. Additionally, we want to provide said UI automatically whenever you open the uploader for a mini that you've previously uploaded with TaleWeaver[0].
Existing Uploads
We're also investigating what to do with the incredible amount of content you've already uploaded to mod.io. While I don't want to promise anything at this point since we still need to investigate some issues, I do want to mention that we're looking into the feasibility of a bulk tag-updater.
However, it's quite likely that not every creator will go back through their entire library of already-uploaded minis to update them with tags, so we're also trying to find other solutions to apply tags and metadata to existing uploads retroactively. Unfortunately, we don't have anything concrete to share here yet.
(If you have ideas or examples of how other games handled adding new capabilities to user-made content later on, please reach out!)
That's all for me. See you all next devlog!

[0]: This would likely be overridable if you do want to upload it as a new submission instead.
